What is the world is going on

This time of year is always an amazing time of year to just sit back and think on the upcoming holiday.  Yes I am talking about Halloween.

I am not sitting here in fear of the witch craft that is associated with this holiday.  I know some people see a demon under every rock and I do believe that Satan is real and he has power but I KNOW that Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.  I know my Lord conquered death.

But as I look around me I see a lot of things that make me wonder about this holiday.  I have heard people say that it is nothing but a fun day to dress up and go around and get candy.  But if that is all it is why are homes decorated with nothing but gore, death and mayhem.  I see many homes with skeletons hanging from trees, severed hands hanging out of the windows or doors, tombstones in the front yard, witches on broomsticks, and several stabbing victims.  None of those things are fun or innocent.  So if it is just a fun dress up holiday why don’t they sell window clings that are of cute little costumes, babies or teddy bears dressed up?  Why are the majority of decorations of evil things not the cute little side of this holiday?

On the note of costumes why do we think it is fun to dress up our children as witches, ghosts, or mass murderers?  And for the girls, well they get to dress in trashy costumes.  The costumes offered at the stores are normally flappers, cheerleaders, or if you don’t want to be trashy you can go gothic.  Also the adult costumes are worse than the kids.  On the plus side you can get some amazing things for the bedroom this time of year: D

So what about just substituting, you know trying to avoid the evilness and going out and getting candy or just doing something else.  Well for the most part I don’t look at what the world is doing and then saying you know my kids need a substitute.  Why participate in something that is associated with evil.  I thought we were to be different and to show that difference.  To hold to what is pure and avoid that which is evil.

And with this day falling on a Sunday I would hope that we would not forsake being in the Lord’s house and be associating with what is evil.

This time of year is an amazing time of year.  The leaves are changing into such brilliant colors.  The crisp autumn air, the bonfires, times at the orchards, getting pumpkins for pies.  There are so many many things to do this time of year and to build memories with your children that we do not have to look to the world.  Take the kids for a color walk.  Go to an orchard and pick apples.  Find a place that does hay ride.  Rake leaves and jump in them with them then have a bonfire and make smores.  Read books about this time of year.  There are so many that talk about the wonder of this time of year.  I love the children’s books that teach them about the Autumnal Equinox and they don’t even know it.  What an opportunity to show them God in all of the wonderful creation he has made.  We don’t need the world’s tradition.  Make some of our own.  Have fun together as a family learning about our wonderful Lord and the amazing world that he has created for us.
