While listening to the morning show on the best radio station EVER which is WBLW they discussed an article about selective eating disorder. It is all on adults who chose to eat only certain foods, normally fast food or highly processed foods. Reading through the article I thought, why, why do we have to label everything as a disorder. But if you get labeled with a disorder you don't have to say, you know what I am just immature and selfish and have chosen to live this way. Cause that is what picky eating is.
It is immature because you are not taking the time to train your self to like or at least endure foods that you have not liked at the first try. It takes at least 12 times of experimenting and learning to eat this new food. Yes I said LEARNING. Something you just have to learn to do.
It is selfish as you are demanding your way, that little red faced kid who says, my way, has won and is controlling your life. How sad to live like this as an adult.
So what do you do with picky eaters, Here we have given them the option of putting 2 things on a do not eat list, they never have to eat those 2 items. Every child can have 2 things on their list and they have the option of changing what is on their list at the beginning of the month. We have 8 kids and only 3 items. Peas, diced tomatoes (although he eats them in chili and such) and cooked spinach. The kids have to eat what is set before them no questions asked. If you don't eat your oatmeal for breakfast expect to see it at lunch time, and if you don't eat it at lunch you know it is coming to supper. Kids will eat when they get hungry.
Then on Sunday they can pick what they want to eat, If that means they eat only meat, or only bread so be it. I know they are being served good meals all week long and this is the reward for the ones who eat without complaint
But then the radio station went on to apply it to our spiritual lives. And what a wonderful application.
Eating different foods is an act of training. Each culture has foods that they introduce to their children and train them to like. Think america vrs australia. Pickles and olives vrs. vegimite (shudder) And yet each culture introduces different foods to their children over and over again until that is what the child craves.
We need to be doing this with our Spiritual lives. Reading your Bible is a habit that has to be trained into you. It honestly doesn't come naturally. And if you make it a habit it is yours. When it is a habit you will get to where you do look forward to your times with God but when you don't (cause there will be those days) you will still spend that time and those tend to be the days He speaks the most. But it is habit, training. That you will eventually crave The same could be said for many things that need to be in our Christian walk, prayer, church attendance, etc. We need to learn to do these things.
And if we aren't craving these things. I would first check what culture I am hanging around in. And then if the culture is right I would see what I am feeding my appetites. We can't fill our selves up on the junk that the world offers and still expect ourselves to desire God. It doesn't work that way.
You can't serve God and the world.
I want to leave you with this quote from Keith Green
"If your heart takes more pleasure in reading novels, or watching TV, or going to the movies, or talking to friends, rather than just sitting alone with God and embracing Him, sharing His cares and His burdens, weeping and rejoicing with Him, then how are you going to handle forever and ever in His presence...? You'd be bored to tears in heaven, if you're not ecstatic about God now! "

Excellent post ...
Mrs.B
Interesting post. :) You make some excellent points.
Except Vegemite is awesome!! Sorry, had to put that in there. :) I love it! Although that alone really just makes a positive proof case for your blog because my mom fed it to me a kid. I've been eating Vegemite since before I can remember and boy do I crave it - even after years of not being able to eat it because it's hard to find in the U.S.
